We’re delighted to share that our very own Laura Freeman, Group Spa Manager at Aqua Sana Forest Spa, has been appointed as a new Board Member of the UK Spa Association, where she’ll be working alongside other experienced professionals to make a positive impact on the spa industry and drive the sector forward.

Starting out as a Beauty Therapist, Laura has worked within the spa industry for almost 19 years and now oversees our six UK and Ireland locations. We caught up with her to discuss this exciting news, and learn a little more about her career and ambitions for the future of the spa sector.

Firstly, congratulations! Can you give us a brief overview of your career so far?

I’ve been in the spa and wellness industry for nearly 19 years, working both in the UK and internationally. I began my journey as a therapist in Scotland, and from there I progressed into various operational and leadership roles. I’ve had the privilege of working with respected brands like Fairmont Hotels, Champneys, and now Aqua Sana Forest Spa, where I serve as Group Spa Manager.

What do you enjoy most about your current role within Aqua Sana Forest Spa?

What I enjoy most is the ability to influence positive change across all of our spas. I get to work with incredible teams and help shape the guest experience while also driving operational efficiencies. There’s a real sense of purpose in being able to support team development, encourage innovation, and ensure that our standards continually evolve to meet the expectations of our guests.

What made you want to become a board member of the UK Spa Association?

I’ve always believed in giving back to the industry that’s given me so much. Joining the UK Spa Association board felt like the right opportunity to do just that. I want to contribute to shaping the future of our sector, supporting upcoming talent, and helping ensure the industry remains resilient, innovative, and inclusive.

Do you have any initial ideas or thoughts for your new position?

I’m especially passionate about mentoring and professional development, so I’d love to explore ways to strengthen career pathways and training support across the industry. I’m also keen to get involved in initiatives around sustainability and wellness innovation - two areas that I believe are vital for the future of spa and wellness.

Can you give some advice for someone who might be starting their career in the spa sector?

Say yes to opportunities - even the ones that feel slightly out of your comfort zone. The spa industry is full of potential, and every role you take will teach you something valuable. Build strong relationships, never stop learning, and remember that passion and professionalism will always take you far.

With a wealth of experience and a genuine passion for the spa and wellbeing industry, Laura’s appointment to the UK Spa Association board is a fantastic step – not just for her, but for the wider sector too. We’re incredibly proud to see her representing Aqua Sana Forest Spa at a national level, and we can’t wait to see the positive impact she’ll make as she helps shape the future of spa in the UK.
